Prospect Watch: El Paso overcame an early deficit to defeat the Space Cowboys in extra innings. … Forrest Wall had the walk-off single, capping off a multi-hit night. The veteran outfielder has produced a solid .380 on-base percentage for the Chihuahuas this season, but with just three home runs, his overall offensive production is just below the league average. … After a rough outing from starter Logan Gillaspie, the Chihuahuas’ bullpen clamped down and delivered 8.2 innings of scoreless baseball. … Lefty Miguel Cienfuegos entered in the second inning and pitched 3.2 strong innings, allowing just two hits. He walked two and struck out three. The 28-year-old Canadian featured a fastball topping out at 93 mph and a slider. He notched seven whiffs as well. Cienfuegos started the year in San Antonio but has spent most of the season with El Paso, functioning as a long man. He has a 4.60 ERA in 16 games. … Righty Eduarniel Núñez tossed two scoreless innings to pick up the win. He ran his high-octane fastball up to 100 mph and notched four strikeouts, though only six of his 17 fastballs were in the zone, leading to a pair of walks. Nuñez extended his Triple-A scoreless streak to 12.1 innings, as he continues to dominate PCL hitters. He’s allowed just two hits, and he has a 0.65 WHIP. The 26-year-old will likely get another big league opportunity before the season is over, though he’ll need to land more of his pitches in the zone to get outs consistently at the highest level.

Midland RockHounds 8, Missions 4

Key Statistics: DH Marcos Castañon 2-for-3, BB; CF Kai Murphy 1-for-3, R, 2B, BB, RBI; RHP Victor Lizarraga 5 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB, 5 K; J.B. Wendelken (L, 1-1) 1.2 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; LHP Ryan Och 1.2 IP, H, BB, K

Prospect Watch: The Missions dropped their fourth in a row at home. John Conniff has the story from a tough night in San Antonio

Cedar Rapids Kernels 4, TinCaps 3 (10 innings)

Key Statistics: SS Leo De Vries 1-for-5, R, SB (8); 3B Rosman Verdugo 1-for-4, R, BB, RBI; DH Sean Barnett 2-for-4, RBI; RHP Isaiah Lowe 5.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB, 3 K; RHP Ruben Galindo 1.2 IP, H, ER, BB, 5 K; RHP Misael Tamarez (L, 0-1) 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 3 K

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps tied the game at two in the ninth inning, briefly took the lead in extra innings, only to fall to the Kernels in Cedar Rapids. … Sean Barnett started at designated hitter and swatted a pair of singles in four trips to the plate. Barnett was 0-for-17 to start July, but he’s now hit safely in three straight games. The 22-year-old is working as a two-way player, starting at designated hitter a couple of times a week and also pitching on the mound. Overall, the former Wingate University star has a .666 OPS for the TinCaps this year while pitching to a ghastly 21.09 ERA in 14 games. … Righty Isaiah Lowe pitched well, tossing 5.2 innings in the loss. He allowed a run on five hits, walking two and striking out three. Lowe has been in the zone much more in July, and the results have been encouraging, although there is still some concern with the underlying numbers. In four starts this month, Lowe has a 3.92 ERA. He has tossed at least five innings in three of the starts. However, opposing batters are still hitting .317 off the righty. Lowe hasn’t shown the same swing-and-miss tendencies he did last year, but he’s shown a lot of resilience, and if he can miss more bats, he can still be a viable starter. … Organizational newcomer Misael Tamarez tossed 1.2 innings and took the loss. The 25-year-old allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits. He racked up three strikeouts as he reached triple-digits with his fastball. Tamarez spent the last three years in Triple-A for the Astros before being released. He is pitching at the High-A level for the first time since 2021. Since joining the TinCaps, he has a 2.08 ERA in three appearances.

Storm 1, Stockton Ports 0

Key Statistics: CF Kasen Wells 2-for-4; 1B Victor Figueroa 1-for-3, BB, RBI; RHP Maikel Miralles (W, 2-1) 6 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K; RHP Johan Moreno (S, 1) 2 IP, H, BB, 2 K

Prospect Watch: The Storm rode three pitchers to a 1-0 victory in Stockton. It was the club’s league-leading ninth shutout of the year. … Righty Maikel Miralles continued his recent run of excellent work with perhaps his best outing yet. Miralles pitched a career-high six innings, allowing just two hits. He walked a pair and struck out three. The 20-year-old righty has not allowed a run in his last three starts, spanning 15 innings. During his hot stretch, he’s allowed just eight hits and two walks while striking out four. Overall, the 20-year-old right-hander, who entered the year as one of the sleepers in the Padres system, has a 3.66 ERA this season. Miralles was hit hard early in the year, but after spending a month on the IL, he has come back looking much more effective. … Righty Johan Moreno pitched the final two innings, earning his first save of the year. He allowed just one hit, walking one and striking out two. Moreno got off to a rough start this season, but he has been quite good in July, functioning as a multi-inning reliever. In six appearances this month, he has a 2-0 record, with a 2.45 ERA. He’s struck out 17 while walking just four in 14.2 innings. … Center fielder Kasen Wells had two singles – he was the only Storm hitter to notch more than one hit. The speedy 21-year-old has hit safely in four straight games, going 6-for-15 in the process. Wells doesn’t possess much power, but he has tremendous speed and makes frequent contact as a table-setter at the top of the lineup.
